Meyer’s Gift Ensures Strong Leadership

A gift from retired University of Wyoming professor and administrator E.G. “Gerry” Meyer, matched by state funds, will create the E.G. Meyer Family Chemical and Biomedical Engineering Department Head endowment. The fund will help UW recruit and retain a top leader while supporting departmental priorities.

“My undergraduate degree was in chemical engineering, and I just feel that chemical engineering has tremendous possibilities,” Meyer says.

“Few individuals have had as profound an influence on UW as Dr. Meyer,” says UW President Ed Seidel. “From shaping our campus to inspiring generations of students and faculty, his legacy is part of the very fabric of this university.”

Meyer, who joined UW in 1963 and served in several leadership roles, has influenced the university for decades through teaching, research, campus development, and philanthropy. The endowed position, requiring a $2 million fund, elevates the department’s profile and provides flexible resources for student success, faculty excellence, and strategic initiatives.
