Dimitrios Smyrnios built a remarkable career leading some of the world’s most recognized food companies, culminating in his role as CEO of Schwan’s Co. and later as executive chairman of CJ Foods, Americas. From his early days at PepsiCo’s Frito-Lay division to senior leadership positions at Nestlé Waters and Nestlé Dreyer’s Ice Cream, Smyrnios earned a reputation for strategic vision and innovation in global food brands.
Now retired, he is giving back to his alma mater with a major gift to establish the Smyrnios Family Sales Professorship—an investment, doubled by state matching funds, that equips future leaders with the same sales skills that shaped his own career.
Smyrnios says that his motivation is rooted in his belief that sales skills are essential for every career. “I am very impressed with the commitment of the UW College of Business to teach and develop sales skills in our future business leaders,” Smyrnios says.
The sales program delivers innovative instruction, fosters industry engagement, provides students with real-world experience in professional selling and sales management, and supports research that advances the field of sales. “Year after year, our UW sales program propels top students into outstanding careers, and this gift strengthens our ability to sustain and elevate that success,” says Scott Beaulier, the H.A. “Dave” True Jr. Family College of Business Dean. “With this support, we can enhance our engagement with both students and industry, ensuring even greater impact for years to come.”
This endowed professorship ensures that the sales program can continue to grow, attracting top faculty who will inspire students and prepare them for success in business and beyond.
